USABILITY
Installation of the tool: AVG Family Safety for mobile phones is delivered as an application which is installed nearly automatically. Therefore the installation process was not tested with regard to usability.
Configuration of the tool: The configuration is limited to an application-based process; configuration steps via web-based access are not provided. The process is mostly comprehensible but context sensitive information are dislocated with regard to the content criteria. The software fulfills user’s expectations, but has only few options to configurate. The overall handling is easy and the principles of use are consistent.
Usage of the tool: The software offers basic functions like URL blocking list and the block access of social websites. The software provides a sensitive alert message but design of alert message isn’t very child friendly. The dialogue between child and parent is not supported. The tool does not have a reporting function.
