USABILITY

Installation of the tool: Net Nanny is delivered as an application which is installed nearly automatically. Therefore the installation process was not tested with regard to usability.
Configuration of the tool: The configuration is provided as web-configuration. The appearance is adapted to the smartphone design, so that the configuration is comfortable on Smartphone/Tablet and PC. The process is consistent and context sensitive explanations are used sufficiently. The configuration fulfills the users' expectations and the handling is easy to understand and enjoyable. The overall look and feel is appealing.
Usage of the tool: In case of a blocked website the tool does provide a redirect to safe resources and an option for the administrator to unblock the website. The alert message cannot be customized and is not worded with respect to children's capability of understanding.

FUNCTIONALITY

Net Nanny for mobile devices is a standalone application. The web filtering customization provides the parent with different options with respect to the content topics: block, allow, warning. There is also the "profanity" category that the parent can choose to mask: this will replace "profane words" with symbols. The parent can create black- and white lists and applications can be blocked. The software offers detailed reporting in various views.


SECURITY

The low rate is due to the possibility for the user to uninstall the tool without a password.
